JOB SUMMARY:

Supports the work of Special Education Services specific to Behavior and Autism Support Services. Focuses on building capacity of campus staff and leaders in services for students with emotional disabilities, skill deficits in social/emotional learning and behaviors that disrupt the learning environment.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides assistance to special education teachers to effectively design instruction to address student specific strategies.
2. Provides help on how to integrate the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) across the instructional day for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and students with other challenging behaviors.
3. Delivers behavior consultation and coaching in selected special education classrooms along with strategies and techniques that will assist staff with controlling and diminishing inappropriate behavior.
4. Observes students and staff in selected special education classrooms along with strategies and techniques; modeling said techniques and instructing students are also duties of this role.
5. Provides campus and district wide training on behavior interventions as well as the writing of appropriate behavior goals and behavior plans.
6. Assists teachers to support communication systems, classroom schedules and strategies for behavior concerns.
7. Provides assistance with the implementation of accommodations and adaptations to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Emotional and Behavior Disorders within general education classrooms and self-contained classrooms.
8. Designs and facilitates professional development on the implementation of effective research-based practices, strategies and interventions for working with students with behavior challenges.
9. Analyzes and interprets data on student behaviors that are especially disruptive to the learning environment and provides recommendations for interventions.
10. Participates in the ARD/IEP process as requested.
11. Collaborates with members of the Office of Special Education Services.
12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Master’s Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE:

3 to 5 years

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:

Work is substantially complex, varied, and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

BUDGET AUTHORITY:

No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS:

Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS:

Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS:

Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
