IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Construction & Facility Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for inspecting, tagging, and installing fire extinguishers and various required signs in accordance with applicable fire codes.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs annual inspections and installs fire extinguishers in schools, vehicles, and buildings including the examination of mechanical parts, suppression agent, and delivery system. Certifies inspection by recording FE tag, including the date and tech initials.
  2. Documents location of all FE during walk thru and /or annual inspections.
  3. Coordinates inventory and ordering of supplies with supervisor.
  4. May be called upon to assist vendor in the annual F/E inspection for HISD bus fleet.
  5. Installs required signage, including but not limited to Flammable Liquid signs on storage buildings, No Storage by Order of Fire Marshall, FE location signs, and Fire shut off valve signs on risers.
  6. Checks Fire Department connection for any damages and ensures signs are in place.
  7. Verifies vendor installations and/or inspections to ensure repair work was completed as proposed.
  8. Installs Fire Extinguisher cabinets or repairs as required.
  9. Performs Fire Extinguisher MINOR Repair (valves, brackets).
  10. Conducts regular walkthrough with and without vendor.
  11. Orders parts, supplies, and fire extinguishers for inventory and special projects.
  12. Accompanies selected vendors during Fire Alarm Inspections.
  13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED

Certifications:

Work Experience:
6 months to 1 year

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Type B and Type K Portable Certification by the State of Texas.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.


WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.


BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.

Basic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and co-workers in own department.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noise, chemicals, etc.
Ability to carry and/or lift up to 15 to 44 pounds.
