HIPPY Parent Tutor Job Description

Under direct supervision, recruits, trains, and supports parents in teaching their preschool age children cognitive and literacy strategies, home-based and school-based, as part of the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program and curriculum.
  1. Meets with assigned families each week for instruction of the HIPPY curriculum through role playing, at families’ homes and at school when needed.
  2. Completes data entry and report generation of Efforts To Outcomes (ETO) for national HIPPY data base regarding assigned families.
  3. Manages families schedule and monitors participation in the program.
  4. Participates in all HIPPY sponsored activities with assigned families.
  5. Attends mandatory weekly in-service training of the HIPPY curriculum and other staff development activities.
  6. Creates outreach material and rosters; completes other light clerical duties
  7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district. Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard. Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb, and/or be mobile. Ability to travel throughout the district and city. Valid Texas driver’s license with appropriate insurance coverage.
