JOB SUMMARY: Provides leadership in planning, coordinating, and facilitating a school-based framework of support and intervention for high school students at risk of dropping out or failing to graduate with their cohorts.

GOALS OF EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: To provide leadership in planning, coordination and implementation of a program that meets the educational needs of students. To motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge commensurate with their individual abilities In this job the incumbent must be able to display the use of good judgment in making decisions; must maintain professional relationships with students, parents, their peers and supervising staff members; and must maintain acceptable standards of physical health, energy, and emotional adjustment to the job environment.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify and monitor highly at-risk students as early as ninth grade.
  2. Develop and provide instructional plans for recovering lost credits.
  3. Providing on-going emotional support and personal professional contact.
  4. Identify other support services that can assist the student. Act as a liaison between student and services.
  5. Work with counselors and teachers to provide instructional intervention and other strategies that can prevent initial failures.
  6. Communicate effectively with teachers, staff and administrators to advocate for students.
  7. Collect and submit information to the Academic Services department as necessary or as requested.
  8. Assist students in using hard copies and on-line programs to prepare for appropriate state and district exams.
  9. Establish, maintain, and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline policy approved by the Board of Education up to level IV of the Code of Student Conduct.
  10. Maintain inventory of equipment and materials assigned to the Credit Recovery Lab and recommend replacement and maintenance as required.
  11. Provide two-way communication between district office and the site.
  12. Assume overall responsibility for program implementation and results.
  13. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  14. Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and behavior.
  15. Receive, distribute, and reply to communication sent to the Credit Recovery Lab from district and/or site administration.
  16. Invite motivational/guest speakers to lecture to the students.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned, including special assignments or emergency situations as determined by the office of Academic Services.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree

WORK EXPERIENCE: Three years of successful classroom teaching or in a related coaching/supporting/intervention role

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Teacher Certification Microsoft Office Office equipment ( computer, copier, etc.)

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graduation Coach will work under the immediate direction of the campus administrator. Provides professional/technical advice to certificated members of the Lab. May plan and supervise the work of assistants in the Credit Recovery Lab.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: Compiles and organizes data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased satisfaction or dissatisfaction; producing efficiencies or delays; promoting or inhibiting personal intellectual or professional development; and/or contributing to financial gain or expense. Errors may be serious, usually not subject to direct verification or check, causing losses such as improper cost calculations, overpayment or improper utilization of labor, materials or equipment. Effect usually confined to the organization itself and is short term.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Makes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift up to 15 to 44 pounds.
