Job Family – Construction & Facility Services

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, maintains permits, drafting and archives. Provides life safety leadership and administrative support for all HISD schools and support facilities. Ensures all relative permits and drafting documents adhere to all regulations. Responsible for permits and life safety code compliance for the district. Monitors cost proposals, timelines, quality, and project scope for HISD construction projects. Reports results to senior leadership.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborates and maintains files on all municipal and state life safety compliance certificates, permits and/or operational licenses for all HISD schools and support facilities.
  2. Coordinates inspection and corrective activities relative to district’s responsibility to maintain acceptable occupancy and permit status pursuant to city, state and federal requirements. Interacts with city officials to organize inspection schedules and
  3. Serves as a liaison between school administrators, the Fire Marshall and the Health Department and all other related municipal, state, and federal authorities to identify violations.
  4. Meets regularly with Houston Fire Department inspectors to review code violations and resolve problems.
  5. Reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations and work break down for project completion. Interacts with selected contractors to be utilized for correcting compliance violations. Responsibilities include review, inspection and oversight of work, and final sign off of all associated project documentation.
  6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: SAP, Microsoft Office, CAD Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, and forklift) Certificate/Code Experience

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: Analyzes and interprets data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noise, chemicals, etc. Ability to carry and/or lift 45 pounds or more.
