Job Family – Communications & Marketing

bWrites, produces, directs, films, and edits educational and informational broadcast and non-broadcast television programs for district’s Multimedia Spanish Division.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for coordinating and managing the work of the Spanish-language Division to provide information, resources, and tools in a variety of media to HISD’s external and internal buisness.

2. Plans, researches, designs, and writes video presentations of social, political, financial, and instructional issues impacting HISD. Produces, organizes, and directs television production. Schedules all aspects of the production, ensuring program completion are on time and within budget.

3. Provides project management and coordination for all aspects of television production from concept to finished product.

4. Coordinates with HISD administrators, board members, teachers, students, parents and community leaders to evaluate, plan, and explain parameters of all the technical and logistical aspects of the production, as well as the final product.

5. Conceives and formulates future educational and informational television programs while collaborating with multiple departments to meet HISD’s education and communication goals.

6. Oversees all videography, editing, graphics and animation, using editing systems to assemble television productions. Conducts on camera and off camera interviews of subject matter experts contributing to the program.

7. Ensures the creative and technical quality of instructional, informational, news and professional development programs. Reviews and approves all productions prior to release within the division.

8. Consults with staff from other departments and schools to assess translation needs and production schedules including coordinating with Nutrition Services and the Bond Communications department.

9. Remains abreast of current district policies and procedures to communicate to non-English-speaking audiences.

10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Vocational / Technical / Business School

WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Microsoft Office, Final Cut Pro; Adobe Photoshop

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees, but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing typically involves monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of same duties they are leading.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: Analyzes and interprets data and figures.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Takes routine or required customer actions to meet customer needs. Responds promptly and accurately to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for information and coordinates appropriate follow-up. May handle escalated issues passed on from coworkers or subordinates.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
