JOB SUMMARY: Serves as an HISD supplier diversity liaison representative to suppliers, external businesses, the community, schools, and departments to encourage, facilitate and increase Minority and Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation. Assists with the planning, organizing, implementing and reporting on the activities of the Supplier Diversity and Business Assistance Program.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as an HISD supplier diversity liaison representative to suppliers, external businesses, the community, schools, and departments to encourage, facilitate and increase Minority and Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation.
  2. Collaborates with the Procurement and Bond Program Departments to accomplish M/WBE objectives in all areas of purchasing and contracting.
  3. Assists with designing and facilitating seminars/workshops for M/WBE's throughout the geographic community on purchasing and contracting procedures relative to HISD specific Board Policies.
  4. Designs and administers specific outreach programs to recruit potential M/WBE suppliers, including creating an awareness of the supplier diversity and business assistance program through the creation of program specific marketing tools.
  5. Reviews and researches supplier and community inquiries and issues with respect to the district’s M/WBE program.
  6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Microsoft Office PeopleSoft, SAP, HTML

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Collaborate and solve problems - works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
