Job Family – Construction & Facility Services

JOB SUMMARY: Oversees one of the district’s initiatives, including planning, inspections and quality control and monitoring services between HISD and outside contractors to ensure safety, health, and compliance components are satisfied. Also serves as CFS Liaison between administration, various HISD Departments, outside contractors, and City of Houston Departments. The district initiatives include but are not limited to solid waste and telecommunications.


List most important duties first
  1. Oversees the accounts that govern service to schools, auxiliary sites and other administration offices. Conducts daily field inspections or oversees inspections to confirm contract compliance.
  2. Monitors and assesses equipment to ensure compliance to prevent code violations. Submits Weekly District Inspection Survey Reports or District Inspection Reports.
  3. Collaborates with vendors, school based administrators, various HISD Departments, and other CFS staff as needed regarding concerns and issues. Evaluates campus needs and makes recommendations as needed. Provides follow-up to campus-based administration that confirms customer satisfaction.
  4. Monitors activities affecting quality control issues to determine deficiencies in level of service. Serves as a liaison between the school district and the vendor concerning service enforcement that guarantees standard of service and acceptable safety practices.
  5. Serves as a point-of-contact for requests to change services resulting from changes in areas such as 1) closing properties, 2) new construction, 3) changing enrollment, 4) demographic shifts 5) changing priorities, 6) violations and inspections and 7) impact of programs offered through the City of Houston.
  6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Some College

WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 to 3 years

TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Microsoft Office Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY: No budget development activity is required.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS: Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS: Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
